Skincare Saturdays Tip: Get unready with me!

Daily Skin Care routine. How to get unready every night the right way. Here are five basic steps to healthy skin.

Step 1: Remove makeup

The most gentle way to remove makeup from skin is by using baby oil. Baby oil is not just good for a baby’s skin, but it is so gentle that it is the safest thing to use for any skin type. If you think about it, baby oil is safe enough to use on a baby’s skin that is already so sensitive, thus is good to use on all skin types. I used a cotton pad and put some baby oil on it, and gently remove all the makeup from my face. Never sleep with makeup on your face, it will clog up the pores and that is what creates pimples on the face.

Step 2: Rinse your face

Gently rinse your face off the oil and makeup with a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type. I personally have normal to dry skin, so I use the Clean & Clear cleanser. However, the cleanser is good for all skin types.

It is super gentle on the skin, which makes it so great to use!

Step 3: Wipe face with warm towel

After taking off your makeup with baby oil, and washing your face, use a warm towel to wipe your face. The warm heat will help your pores open up to wipe the cleanser off.

Step 4: Toner

Once done wiping your face with a warm towel, this helps the pores open up to get all the dirt out of the pores. Use a toner to close the pores on your face. I use the same cotton pad and dab some toner onto it and gently wipe your face with the toner. The toner will help close the pores to get it ready for the next step – moisturizing.

Step 5: Moisturizing

The final step in getting un-ready, is moisturizing the face. Now that you have cleansed and toned your face, it is time to moisturize it before heading to bed.  I personally use the Clarins Hydraquench Cream, which is for normal to dry skin. I find it to be the most gentle on the skin and no matter what skin type, this cold cream will not irritate it. I have been using it for years and probably gone through countless tubs of them. I gently apply a generous layer of moisturizing cream on my face before heading to bed to end my nightly routine.

Makeup Dupes to save your wallet

We have all been there, we love makeup but our wallets don’t. To help rescue your wallet, here are my top five makeup dupes that cost less than a fraction of the real thing, but work just as well.

  1. Instead of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, use the L’oreal True Match Lumi Foundation.

Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation costs about $70. It looks great but definitely does some damage to your wallet. The L’oreal True Match Lumi foundation, I have personally used and it works great and it’s 1/4 of the price of the Giorgio Armani.

  2. Instead of the Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette, try the Covergirl TruNaked Roses Eyeshadow Palette.

Covergirl’s TruNaked Roses Eyeshadow Palette is not even a quarter of the price of a Naked eyeshadow palette, but it is highly pigmented. The shadows go on well and stay on for a while. I would highly recommend the Covergirl Palette, as it is highly pigmented, and the colours are great.

  3. Instead of the MAC Lipstick in “Brave”, try the Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in #8.

I personally love MAC lipsticks, but finding a good dupe, my wallet loves it too! Try the Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in #8, it will change your life. The lipstick is a complete dupe of the MAC lipstick, but not even half the price.

  4. Instead of the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof eyeliner, use the Flower Beauty On Your Mark Liquid Eyeliner.

I love my eyeliners but I also love a good dupe. The Stila liners are amazing, but if you want to save a few bucks, try the Flower Beauty On Your Mark Liquid Eyeliner.

  5. Last but not the least, use the L’oreal Voluminous mascara instead of the Dior Show Mascara.

L’oreal mascaras are amazing, and the new voluminous mascara is a great substitute to the Dior Show mascara. To get even more voluminous curvy lashes, try the primer to go along with the L’oreal Voluminous mascara.

Now that you know my top five drugstore makeup dupes, here are some more by Meg O. Drugstore Dupes, a few of them that I have already mentioned. So, who’s ready to go to the drugstore?

How to get the perfect lip application tutorial video+ Beyonce Grammy Inspired drugstore post

The Grammy’s just happened a few weeks ago, and Beyonce looked beautiful in her dress! Her makeup looked even more phenomenal, and according to her Makeup Artist Sir John, stated in a Mail Online article, Beyonce’s whole makeup look costed no more than $20 and all of the products used were L’oreal drugstore products! So without further or do, here is my Beyonce Grammy inspired lip tutorial and the blog post below so you can also feel like Queen Bee.

As promised, here is my  Beyonce Inspired Makeup Steps below using all L’oreal products for under $20 all the from the drugstore.

  1. Prep the Skin

Moisturize the skin by applying a generous layer of moisturizing cream, a basic cold cream will do the job. I personally use ponds cold cream

  2. Prime the skin

Use the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Foundation Primer. This primer is great for all skin types and lasts the whole day.

  3. Apply Foundation

Use the L’oreal Infalliable Pro Glow Foundation. Dab some on your hands, and then dab some onto your foundation brush. I personally use the Real Techniques stippling brush, it gives me great coverage, and the brush does not much at the drugstore.

  4. Conceal

To conceal under the eyes and around the T-zone, use the LA girl Pro concealer.

  5.  Apply Eyeshadow

Use the L’oreal Nude Palette. I have personally used this palette, and I love it! The shadows are highly pigmented and stay on for the whole day even without a eyeshadow primer.

  6. Highlight

Finish off the Beyonce Grammy look with the True Match Liquid Lumi Illuminator in Golden. Beyonce did not look so glowy and highlighted without layering on highlighters to finish off her makeup look! Apply the highlight on the cheekbones, tip of the nose, and right above the lip.

There you have it, that is how I would get Beyonce’s super dewy, glowy, and contoured Beyonce Grammy inspired look. If you are wanting more inspiration on how to achieve this look, checkout CBC Life Makeup Tutorial below.

Tips Tuesday: How to get long, strong, and shiny hair

Oils are your friend

Yes honey, oils! If you want to get that shiny healthy, bouncy looking hair all your favourite celebrities have right now, the secret is conditioning your hair before showering. My mom taught me this trick, but since I realized it, this trick has changed my life. At least every week I condition my hair over night with a oil mixture, I have a bottle with mixed coconut oil, almond oil, and castor oil. I apply it before I go to bed the night before I have to wash my hair the next morning. Apply it gently to your hair and massage it into your scalp, then use a shower cap and cover your hair. When you wake up next morning, take a shower and watch your hair grow longer and shinier.

Drop the shampoo

Well not literally, but reduce the amount of shampoo you use in the shower. Even if you skip a day or two of shampooing your hair, your hair will thank you! Conditioners are actually what you need for your hair, shampoos just take out the natural oils from your hair. I don’t actually shampoo my hair very often, the most you need is a little bite size of the shampoo for your hair, but I NEVER skip conditioning.

End with a cold shower

Before you end your shower, turning the cold water on for a little and keeping your hair under the water for a few seconds to end the shower helps the hair a lot! It locks those cuticles in so you don’t lose more of your natural oils from your hair. Showering in hot water just makes your hair and also your skin drier. Maybe remember that when you want to turn up the heat in the shower even more.

Say bye-bye to your heat styling

As much as we love having that straight sleek hair style, or those really voluminous hair curls, all that heat that touches your hair is damaging it even more. Try to use heat very sparingly when you want your hair to grow long, strong, and shiny. My hair is kept in its natural waves for most of the weeks, I only straighten my hair or curl it on special occasions and some weekends.

Repeat these habits and you can say hello to gorgeous looking hair.

Tips Tuesday: How you can be a master of prepping your skin and finding that perfect shade of foundation for yourself!

I feel you. We have all been there, buying that shade of foundation, swatching it in Sephora or in the drug store, and when they don’t even have a tester for your foundation, you know how it is going down.

eye-rolling

I know how you feel, even I was once there! So let me help you to find that perfect shade and fit of foundation for your skin, because everyone has different types of skin and one size does not fit all!

First of all, what type of skin do you have?

Is it dry? Is it oily? Is it mixed with both dry and oily skin?

If you have dry skin, your saving grace is going to be to…..MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, and MOISTURIZE!

I can’t stress this enough! Moisturizing will be your saving grace for a smooth application of foundation! Before you apply anything on your skin, please moisturize your face first! Before you apply your foundation, if you moisturize your face and neck well, you’re going to get a good application of your foundation and it is going to apply on so smoothly, you’re going to thank me later!

Prime your skin if you have oily skin

If your skin is oily..I only have one word for you, Primer!! Makeup Primers are going to make your foundation look flawless! Prime the oiliest areas of your face, which is usually the T-zone (forehead, chin, and nose).

Now that you know what to do for the type of skin you have, it’s time for you to find that perfect foundation and know how to apply it like a master!

So when you go into the drug store, and pick out a foundation, first thing you want to do is dab a little on the palm of your hands and warm it up with your fingers to apply it on your skin. Apply it with your fingers on your neck line, if the colour blends in well into your skin, that is your colour! The colour has to look like it’s your skin, it has to melt into your skin colour, and that is when you know that’s the shade for you. Also, keep in mind, with the summer coming soon, you might want to get a shade darker for the summer as the sun will be out and tanning will be on your radar! I usually keep a shade darker for the summer in my makeup kit at home, especially in the summer! If you have oily skin, go for foundation that is oil free and non-comedogenic.
